Suitcase Series: Lindsey Holland

As founder of lifestyle brand, The Longing – as well as of a surf and wellness retreat, Marnie Rays – travel is in Lindsey Holland’s DNA.

A creative with a passion for surfing and an effortless style worthy of escapism, it was only fitting Lindsey collaborated with British fashion brand Whistles on a collection of swimwear perfect for balmy summer days and beyond.

To celebrate the launch of The Longing x Whistles high summer collection, we speak to her about her love for the ocean, how she spends her ideal afternoon in her home city, and find out where she’s hosting her next surf retreat.

What is the first trip you remember taking?

Turkey with my family when I was around five years old. I remember what seemed like the biggest swimming pool in the world.

What’s been your most memorable trip and why?

I went surfing alone in Hawaii and it was the most magical trip. It’s the place where the idea for my Surf and Wellness retreat Marnie Rays was born.

Where or what is your escape?

Surfing.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve taken from your travels?

To completely reset, I need to travel solo a few times a year and explore.

If I could go anywhere tomorrow I’d go to:

Hawaii to surf. There’s a theme here…

How would you spend your ideal afternoon in your home city?

I’m from Stockport, which is a smaller town just outside of Manchester. My ideal day is spent with my family and best friends, heading out to Rudy’s Pizza for food.

What’s your idea of a luxury holiday?

A trip where I don’t have to make plans, reservations or my bed.

Where do you get your holiday inspiration?

I do lots of research. I also trust what my friends like too.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a flight who would it be?

Kris Jenner; that woman has built empires and I want to know how.

How do you recover from jet lag?

To beat jet lag I get myself in the current time zone as fast as possible, I change my watch on the plane. I stay awake until local bedtime, do some pilates, and have a big stretch.
