Editor’s Letter: February 2024

It’s funny isn’t it, the dialogue that perennially returns on February 1st, “Can I still say Happy New Year?” While it’s whizzing by in the blink of an eye, this year, we have an extra day to play with.

As I fill up my calendar with exciting things to do this month: play openings (A Mirror’s transfer to the West End and Sarah Snook’s The Picture of Dorian Gray); a trip to Six Senses Courchevel; booking ahead for Borgo Egnazia in Puglia and Watamu in Kenya (all with kids in tow)  – I am sure that each and every booking, every experience we choose to encounter, will be well worth it.

And oh, do we have plenty of inspiration. Eshita Kabra-Davies’ (founder of By Rotation) insider guide to Rajasthan, her motherland, the location of her honeymoon, and the region that inspired her business is well worth a read; and Gina Jackson’s experience of Riviera Maya’s Chablé Yucatan takes you to one of the world’s 50 best hotels. And as far as serious 2024 travel inspiration goes, this is your essential guide, right here!

As we enter the month of romance, passion is high on the agenda. You may want to open up your mind to our pick of the world’s best hotels for sex (or indeed sexiest hotels) or perhaps enter a competition to win a romantic weekend away to the glorious Calcot Manor & Spa. I’m also reminiscing about this fascinating podcast with Cameron Long-Tel, sexpert and brand expert at LELO, where we explored cultural norms and attitudes towards sex and sexuality, as well as societal taboos surrounding female pleasure. Admittedly, there were moments I blushed, but it was an eye-opening conversation I urge you to listen to.

While I don’t have favourite articles, this one piece is definitely worth a read – it’s all about how our starry night skies are transforming travel. I’m also absolutely indulging in our fashion editor, Gemma Louise Deek’s activewear edit throughout the year and taking up Becki Murray’s (beauty editor) recommendations on these wellness patches. If you’ve travelled with children (or near them), the calm is very welcome!

I’m particularly excited about our Citizen Femme events calendar this month, including an exclusive panel chat at Annabel’s discussing the importance and psychology of family travel, as well as an Investor Breakfast for women in business at Allbright. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter to stay in the loop about reader events, and send us any questions on Instagram so we can answer them in our weekly ‘Ask The Team’ series. The team are also sharing their weekly favourite things to see, buy, do and eat – I highly recommend you head on over to Instagram to keep up to date on that! In other news, while I’m personally still getting my head around TikTok, go behind the scenes with us on meetings, shoots, events and so much more. Happy February!
