S2: Passport to...

Passport to... Travel Photography

In Episode 8, Season 2, we explore what it’s like to travel through the lens of two of our favourite photographers, Issy Croker and Renée Kemps.

Renée Kemps is a commercial and editorial interior, architecture, and lifestyle photographer based between London, Amsterdam, and Stockholm. Issy Croker is a commercial and editorial food, travel, and lifestyle photographer based in London. While Renée started out in food photography (her first paid photography job was for a hotel in Japan after graduating uni), Issy’s entrée to the world of photography was by way of ‘Bunker’ – a nightclub in Bristol, where she worked on Monday nights while studying.

From “playing around” to developing a “specific personal style”, in this episode Issy and Renée explore topics ranging from storytelling through imagery, to the components that go into making a great picture – “there’s obviously light, there’s composition, there’s tone, there’s colour… and you can get really technical…”. The real magic, however, seems to come from play as much as from planning. “Every picture you shoot doesn’t have to be print worthy” remarks Issy, sometimes it’s “good to shoot things that you think impulsively are beautiful in that moment”.
